The city is within driving range of a variety of fantastic destinations, making it easy to plan exciting day trips. Here are some exciting day trips you can take when you live in Dallas, Texas.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Although a little far away, the Enchanted Rock State Natural is one of the best outdoor day trips you can take from Dallas. The area is around four hours away from Dallas, so be prepared to commit an entire day to this trip. When you arrive you can explore over 11 miles of trails, allowing you to get out and explore the beauty of nature. The area’s namesake, the Enchanted Rock is truly a sight to behold. It stands 425 feet tall, a massive pink granite mountain that is the largest pink granite monadnock in the entire country.


In the spring, Tyler is one of the best day trips you can take from Dallas. The area is home to Tyler Azalea Trail, one of Texas’ premier springtime destinations. Here, you can enjoy 10 miles of residential gardens and historic home sites that are covered in gorgeous scenes of azalea, tulips, and dogwood. Tyler can also be a good day trip destination in the fall as well, as the area is known for its beautiful fall foliage. Regardless of when you choose to visit Tyler, the area provides some beautiful natural scenery that you can’t find in Dallas.


If you’re looking to get away from the busy city and enjoy some small-town life, Athens provides the perfect getaway. Located about an hour away from Dallas, Athens gives you the ability to get some space and enjoy a tight community. The town hosts a variety of events throughout the year, the most common being the town’s weekly farmers market. Besides being a great place to pick up local produce, Athens is extremely walkable, meaning you can spend a day just walking around enjoying the company. Finally, Athens’ most famous location is the Athens Scuba Park, an attraction that allows you to scuba dive in the town’s lake. 

Fort Worth

Fort Worth is often thought of as the twin city of Dallas, meaning it is well within day trip radius. Despite its proximity, Fort Worth is actually quite different from Dallas. Fort Worth is home to a slew of interesting cultural activities, including a wide selection of museums. The Kimbell Art Museum calls the city home, and historical districts like the Fort Worth Stockyards provide a glimpse into the past. Other amenities in the city include the Fort Worth Zoo and Texas Motor Speedway, providing plenty of options for a fun day trip.
